ADVOCACY

INCLUSION & EQUITY

While psychotherapy was only regulated in April of 2015, psychotherapists have been practicing for close to 100 years. During the process of regulation and now following it, leaders in the profession have been advocating on behalf of RPs in various groups.

In April 2019, these advocacy efforts officially united under the umbrella of PRPA.

We advocate and engage in Initiatives that promote the inclusion of Registered Psychotherapists as essential contributors in addressing the mental health crisis in Ontario.

Leveling the playing field

Other providers of psychotherapy in Ontario, while licensed though not in practice longer than RPs, have access to benefits that RPs and their clients do not.

We are working to level the playing field for our clients in  3 main areas:

  1. Exempt psychotherapy sessions from HST – aligning with other health care providers, allowing client dollars to go farther.
  2. Inclusion of RPs in employer benefit plans.
  3. Influence at the policy decision making and resource allocation tables in government – so the unique voice and experience of RPs is considered.
